This weekend Eric and I finally agreed on a paint colour for our bedroom. We went to Riva’s Eco Store and bought it yesterday afternoon. If you are interested in seeing how it turns out you will just have to wait a little while longer.
WHen we bought the paint we decided to splurge and buy Mythic non-toxic paint for a number of reasons.
The Danger of VOCs
VOCs aka volatile organic compounds are found in household paints and they have been found to be hazardous to both our health and our environment. High-level exposure to VOCs has been linked to a number of health conditions including eye and breathing problems, headaches, nausea, dizziness and even cancer. Children and asthma sufferers are especially susceptible to the health hazards presented by the VOCs found in conventional household paints.
In addition to being better for the environment and for people’s health, Bob Villa notes that non-toxic paints are incredibly easy to clean up. He says that because non-toxic paint is not considered a dangerous substance, you can clean up the mess with soap and water and dispose of the cans in your regular trash. Pretty amazing right?
Although I consider Bob Villa to be a total guru I would recommend that you always check the labels on your paint for disposal instructions.
