Today was supposed to be the big reveal for our bedroom’s paint job but sadly we had a paint related mishap. On Friday night Eric and I came home from work and declined all social engagements because we were determined to get our bedroom painted by the end of the weekend. To keep on schedule we diligently prepped and primed the bedroom on Friday night. Isn’t home ownership glamorous?
Saturday morning we woke up all ready to start painting. We just picked up the brushes and got straight to work. As the painting progressed, a nagging voice in my head began to doubt our color choice. I told that voice to quiet down and we finished the first coat of paint.
Wondering why I ignored that little nagging voice? It took Eric and I a long time to pick a color we both liked (weeks to be precise) so I did not say anything. I just kept telling myself it would dry differently. But by the time we finished the bedroom I had major buyer’s remorse. At this point I was hoping the walls would look better once we put the room back together, hung curtains and decorated the with art.
As we finished the first coat Eric looked at me and said he thought the color was darker and greener than he expected. I was relieved to hear I was not alone and confessed I felt the same way. Despite our reservations the two of us thought we would give the color a chance. We also thought it might look better with a second coat.
We were hoping to get away with a single coat of paint over the primer, but it was clear we needed a second coat. So we went back to the store to purchase a second gallon of paint. When we opened the second can of paint we instantly recognized the color we originally picked out and realized the first can was actually the wrong color. It turns out the the person who mixed the paint used an incorrect base.
We picked the color from a book of swatches borrowed from the store. When we bought the paint we gave the swatch book back to the store so we had no way of double checking the accuracy of the color. The result is that we wasted half a day painting our bedroom the wrong color.
Even though we wasted some time painting our walls the wrong color, we are relieved that our bedroom is no longer a frightful shade of sea-foam green! So as a result of this misadventure you will just have to wait a couple more days to check out the color of our bedroom.
