When we bought our house, the yard was in really rough shape. So this past weekend Eric and I spent a lot of time working on our yard. It makes us look like like bad neighbours. You know those neighbours you want to report to bylaw services? Up until this weekend we were those neighbours.
In the above picture I am standing outside our back door looking North towards our garage. Notice the weeds on your left and the dead grass on your right. When we first moved into the house the weed patch was a massive wooden deck. The deck was rotten and paint chipped so we took it out last summer with plans of immediately landscaping. But our new furnace cut into our landscaping budget which then had to be put on hold since having a warm house in the Canadian winter is more important than the yard. We were also lazy didn’t do any weeding. The result was that the dirt under the deck turned into the most embarrassing weed garden of all time.
Next weekend we will be digging a trench to bury our the electrical that powers our garage (the above-ground conduit snaking its way through the weeds). I am not looking forward to trench digging. It sounds like an awful lot of work. We are also getting a construction garbage bin to get rid of all the junk and yard debris. There is so much digging and hauling dirt in my future!
This picture shows my vegetable garden and our dead grass. We have big plans to re-sod that portion of the lawn so we have luscious green grass to enjoy this summer! Come back tomorrow and check out our plans for the yard. Check back over the next couple of months to see the full transformation.
