Online Invitations

by Kristen on July 19, 2010

I was off this Saturday and I spent my time catching up with friends and spending some quality time with EBN.  Chatting with my friend JB I discovered that she and her fiance will be going paperless for their wedding, opting to send digital invitations.

Planners and etiquette experts are divided on e-invites for weddings. Some, including  Jennifer Grayson of the Huffington Post and Anja Winikka of the wedding website The Knot believe that emailed invites can be classy, tasteful and environmentally friendly.  In contrast others, such as etiquette “expert” Peggy Post, believe e-invites should only be sent out in dire situations, making exceptions for extreme circumstances such as wishing to marry your husband-to-be before he is deployed to Iraq! (crazy!)

After digging around on the internet I have to say I think e-invites for weddings can be a great idea!  I was impressed by the elegance and style available to brides who are interested in sending online invitations and I think this is a great way to save money, reduce your environmental footprint and manage the RSVP process.

So check out my two favorite sites and decide for yourself.  Even if you are not getting married, the online invitation websites featured below are great for birthday parties, dinner parties, baby announcements etc.

Pingg: This website is easy to use and has several interesting designs to choose from.  When I first looked at this site I found that I was not overly impressed by the cards they designated as wedding invitations.  I found my favorite e-invites including the one below by checking out some of the other categories.

Paperless Post: Paperless Post is by far my favorite e-invitation source!  With this website, you are able customize the look of your invitation quickly and efficiently.  The site has impeccable style and tons of choice in terms of color, font and general design.  You can also attach a map, and keep track of each guests’ RSVP simply and efficiently.

After looking at these fabulous sites would you ever consider sending e-invites to your wedding?

Paper invitations are so uh, “Old School.” I can’t remember the last time I sent out a paper invitation. Forget about what some “self-appointed etiquette guru” says about manners. Do people really need someone telling them how to behave in society? Good manners is about being considerate of others. It is not about conforming to society’s rules.

Hey Kristin,
I love your blog! From its’ design, the tagline, purpose, goal, so perfectly tied together :) I was wondering if you could give me some ideas on how to go more ‘local’ and be more consumer conscious for my blog – http://www.initiative180.com. I’m trying to do one thing that ‘scares’ me everyday – essentially something outside of my comfort zone/routine – for 180 days.

I would love to just do something for a post or two that show how innately prejudiced I am towards ‘big brands’ and how unconscious I am of my consumer power.

Do let me know what you think and if we could talk over email, etc

Keep on blogging !!!
