$5.00 Roman Shades

by Kristen on September 7, 2011

One of the things I hate most about our house is the mismatched cheap mini blinds covering all our windows.  You name a type of blind and we probably have it.  Metal blinds in the stairway, fake wood blinds in the front entrance and bamboo blinds in the kitchen.  When we first moved in, I looked at having all our blinds replaced and quickly realized that this would cost a lot more than I am currently willing to spend.

I had given up on the idea of new blinds in my house until I came across a post on roman shades from Jessica over at How About Orange.  To my surprise, I found out that making your own roman blinds was an easy DIY project.

To complete this project I used the ugly blinds that came with the house and a lovely scrap piece of Marimekko fabric.  The fabric was an amazing deal.  I paid $5.00 from a big huge scrap piece.

This project is dead easy.  I was able to refinish the old mini blinds in less than an hour.  For a great tutorial and step-by-step instructions check out the Little Green Notebook.  Not too shabby for $5.00!

Wow- that looks really good. Love the fabric and Marimekko is usually quite expensive. You are a clever gal! Brenda

I never thought the pale and dying scene of the window could be as lively as this. Very nice transformation. I like it was also planning to do mine. Thank you.

I am going to try this on my bathroom windows with existing curtain fabric.
